Welcome to CarolinaCommuter.com

I'm launching CarolinaCommuter.com and this blog to promote ride sharing in South Carolina. Skyrocketing fuel prices and increased traffic congestion on South Carolina roadways has brought new relevance to my vision to make it easier for South Carolina commuters to organize carpools.

Six years ago when I first launched Carolina Commuter Solutions, a nonprofit company, to connect South Carolina commuters with similar drives to work there was only tepid interest in carpooling.

Today, with commuters facing crippling fuel prices and increased drive times due to traffic congestion, it’s my hope that commuters will reconsider the money saving and environmental benefits that sharing a ride to work with members of their community working in the same or nearby locations can offer.

It’s my opinion that the conservation side of energy policy is receiving too little attention. I believe carpooling deserves consideration as a viable element within a broad strategy to improve South Carolina’s energy independence.

CarolinaComuter.com’s user friendly ride share matching service is available to South Carolina commuters without charge. And, companies, schools and universities, government agencies, and other organizations wishing to offer ride-share matching as a benefit within their organization may license exclusive access to the service for a minimal cost.

The infrastructure is already in place to make major changes in the way commuters approach their daily commute to and from work – car pooling is about people helping people. And, it’s very likely that commuters will meet some new friends along the way, as well as, save tons of money on fuel, car maintenance, and parking expenses.

Emphasizing carpooling is my way of reminding commuters that they have the authority and the obligation to contribute to changing our region's approach to transportation for the better.

As members of a growing community, CarolinaCommuter.com members have the potential to promote greater participation in transportation policy discussions, and, to influence private industry’s offerings of products and services in South Carolina’s market place.

My vision of reducing traffic congestion within our communities, improving the overall work experience and personal health of workers, and advancing participation in measurable contributions to a cleaner and safer environment will involve cooperation and innovation.
